Coyotes
My neighbor just shot two coyotes. Point blank. In the head. The second one cried out right before. He shot them because they were on his land.
I’m saddened because of this. They didn’t attack anyone. They didn’t raid anything. They were just being coyotes.
I will wail and mourn with the other coyotes this night. I will weep for senseless loss of life. I will sing and howl for lost brethren who were killed because of what they were.
It’s not right. They didn’t DO anything to deserve this. They just were in the wrong place at the wrong time and they paid with their lives.
It’s not right. If we can’t even respect nature, how can we ever think to respect each other?

its not like ou live in the city and they were attacking children, it is just wrong to respect nature when you choose to live in it.

My grandfather used to don his NRA cap, grab hi shotgun and spend a few hours shooting just about anything he saw on his land, except for people and his cattle. He was especially fond of cats and groundhogs. The one time he shot a coyote, you’d think he’d won the lottery. ::shiver::

Awful.

Like you I live in the country surrounded by large farms and the owners of these farms find all wildlife a threat to their crops and livelyhood. Their answer to the wildlife issue is just what your neighbor did.
I feel if the wildlife is not causing any harm leave it alone, allow it to live in peace.

As a southerner and former hunter, over the years I’ve found myself becoming more and more emotional about the senseless loss of life.
Lately, when anything dies, I ache.

There was just a big article in the paper about the fish and game department having to shoot coyotes in a residential area because they were actually attacking people on bikes.
I grew up on a ranch and we routinely had to kill predators to protect our livestock and other animals. It made me sad every time.

What a sad parable of life!
We move into their habitat and somehow they are to blame.
Recently, on a much more benign level, there was a parallel in our area. People from suburb NJ built homes in our area next to farms. Then they complained of the stink when the farmer fertilized his fields and wanted the township to prohibit him from doing it.
