This and That

winter 015.jpg

I have no particular theme for this entry.  No stories.  No insightful essay.  It's going to be more of a glorified 'tweet', I guess.  An update on what's going on around these here parts.

First and foremost, what everyone wants to hear about — the weather!  It's currently 1 degree F.  Yes.  ONE.  That's bad enough, but our stove pipe is blocked so we're running on electric heating right now and it's absolutely frigid.  I swear I saw my breath in the bathroom this morning. After nearly 8 inches of snow the other day, suffice it to say that I'm ready for Spring.

Speaking of snow, during the morning commute last week, when the roads were slick and snow covered, I saw a young woman driving (a bit too fast) and talking on her cell phone.  Honestly.  Don't you think that during a snow storm you might just want to have both hands on the wheel without any distractions?!?  I can only imagine what she was talking about.  "OMG, Becky, that top you bought at the mall last week is SO rad - I can't believe how much my car is skidding on this snow!  This is like, so not cool!"

I try not to judge, but come on already!

One other thing.  I've been interviewed in one of our online news sites concerning my run for a slot on the local school board.  You can read it here.  Elections are in the Spring.  We'll see what happens.

Hope you all are doing well and staying warm.  I'm off to wrap my self up in a slanket.

Glad to hear you are doing well in these frigid temps! I look forward to your post. I love your expression in the pic! That sums it up perfectly! Best to you!

    Hi Curtis,

Happy New Year, and Wow! I can’t think of a better candidate to serve on a School Board! That’s great news, and i wish you much success. We do so little here in the good ol US of A–as a culture and a government–to care for and prepare our young to grow up and lead free, full lives… I think you understand a lot about that and would be an excellent steward.

Good luck with your run for School Board! You have shared with me a bit of your own educational journey and your accomplishment(s) in spite of others. That insight alone would give you a marvelous perspective to bring to any educational board!

Stay warm! I hope you are able to unblock the flue. Besides the warmth, I think of the economics.

    Curtis, happy New Year!

I hope you get a place at the School Board, it’s important to have an undiluted view* on the learning process.

*undiluted as in: having no kids.

I love blog entries like this.
Please give them more often this year, particularly if you are going to include photos of yourself!

    Curtis looks cranky. : )

Goodness! And when was the last time you were disappointed by 8 inches?
We went to John Day Fossil Beds National Monument turkey-day weekend, at 35 degrees, and I had to beg and cajole the whole time (BF’s Palo Alto born & raised). During our mid-December cold spell, I checked temps out there and it matched your lonely single degree. I just didn’t mention that.

your expression captures my feelings about this sustained cold perfectly. i am done with temps in the teens and twenties!
