The Right is Just Wrong
I'm frustrated beyond belief and completely disinterested in having any sort of debate or conversation concerning the moral majority (a claim that is dubious at best) opinions concerning gay rights or, for that matter, any right wing nut job opinion regarding anything. This includes my mother who, despite her view that marriage equality will lead to God taking away the sun, "but something ought to be done for you boys", but not marriage because that is something ordained by God - after all the Bible says so.
Perhaps tomorrow I will wish to re-engage, but tonight, and let me put this succinctly so that there is absolutely no question as to exactly what I mean:
Fuck you.
That is all.

Curtis, I know your mother means a lot to you, but this is one of those things that I would just let go. There’s no need to beat your head against a brick wall. We can talk more, if you like. Brad smoochies atcha!

“He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind.” Let it go, my friend. Live your life with the integrity and grace that I know is in you so that by your very life you prove them wrong.
But at another level I cannot but help think of an ironic twist to your mother’s comment that with gay marriage God will take away the sun. I know what she thinks she means, but think of this: The image of the fulfillment of all time - when all is perfected and all is at peace (refer to the close of the Revelation given to St. John) - is that there is no need for the sun any more. Crying and pain are no more. Perhaps, just perhaps, ironically, when we reach that point that we recognize the love and union of two people regardless of gender, we will finally see that Holy City.

Amen. It is very frustrating, isn’t it? Curtis, i’m running for a slot in the Democratic Party Central Committee (sounds so totalitarian doesn’t it?) in SE Ohio. Wish you were here to vote for me on May 4!

I’ve long given up trying to have rationale converations with irrational people - family included.
Logic means nothing and frustration takes hold. Cut your losses where you can - either ignore the craziness or walk away completely.
It is tough to do w/family, but I’m finding it easier and easier w/some of my siblings.
